Dental Hygiene in Boca Raton with Dr. Mitchell Pohl
As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Mitchell Pohl specializes in using advanced solutions to create beautiful smiles for his patients.  Still, no dentist can build a stunning smile on a weak foundation, so Dr. Pohl is careful to stress the importance of proper dental hygiene.  His Boca Raton patients are well-educated on the best ways to take care of their teeth and gums.  Read on to learn more about the importance of a strong and consistent dental hygiene routine.

Proper Tooth Brushing
Most dentists recommend that patients brush three times a day, or even after every meal.  Dr. Pohl understands that his patients lead busy lives, however, so he encourages his patients to brush twice daily – at the very least.  Brush in gentle, circular motions for maximum plaque removal, and try to brush for at least two minutes.
The proper tooth brushing equipment is also very important.  Adults should use a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head to make reaching the back teeth easier.  Replace your toothbrush every two months and after being sick, so as not to transfer germs.  Also, be sure to select a tooth paste that is ADA approved.

Flossing Correctly
Dr. Pohl often finds that even his patients who are dedicated to brushing their teeth three times a day are not so dedicated to flossing.  In truth, you should floss you teeth at least one time every day to remove any food particles, bacteria, or decay that forms below the gum line and in between teeth.

For easy flossing, use a piece of dental floss that is about 18 inches long.  Ease the floss between the teeth and move it up and down, being sure to curve the floss around the gum line.  For the first few days of flossing, it is normal for the gums to bleed or feel sore.  This should subside, but if it persists beyond the first week you should contact Dr. Pohl for a periodontal examination.

Dental Hygiene with Dr. Pohl
Dr. Pohl teaches his patients that the best complement to a good oral hygiene routine is a visit to his office every six months.  Even the most vigilant patient cannot achieve the deep-down clean that comes with a professional dental cleaning.  What’s more, during his patients’ bi-annual visits Dr. Pohl carefully and thoroughly examines their teeth, gums, mouths, and necks to detect early warning signs of any potential problems such as cavities, oral cancer, or gum (periodontal) disease.

When it comes to dental hygiene, Boca Raton patients are in good hands with Dr. Pohl.  If you would like to schedule a one-on-one session with Dr. Mitchell Pohl to learn how to better care for your teeth, or to schedule your regular cleaning and examination, contact Dr. Pohl today.
